Cill a' Rubha, our purpose-built cottage at Uragaig

Sabbatical rates: this magnificent house deserves to be enjoyed all year round, so we now offer it on the following winter basis (except Christmas / New Year):
1 week £265, 2 weeks £400, 3 weeks £480, 4 weeks £535 inc. VAT.

This modern and fully-equipped cottage is heavily insulated and designed for sabbatical and study use as well as family holidays. Out of season, it is an ideal base for botanists, geologists and ornithologists. Cill a' Rubha is also suited to Family Historians - various resources are available on this website and can be accessed via WiFi Broadband for reference. This may be particularly helpful at the graveyard, as all inscriptions have been transcribed.

The cottage is at Uragaig and faces directly across the ancient chapel-site of Cill a' Rubha (pron: "kil-a-roo"), a sixth-century foundation by St. Maelrubh, looking towards Sgibinis and Balnahard. There are panoramic views, encompassing the whole of Kiloran Bay, the Ross of Mull, the Torran Rocks and distant Dubh Hirteach lighthouse. The magnificent wrap-around sundeck provides a choice of shade or sunbathing throughout all the hours of daylight.

Uragaig ("raised-beach harbour") is an ancient marine platform, now standing some 100 feet above sea level and backed by dramatic cliffs. It is a place of outstanding natural interest, particularly in terms of flora and ornithology. There are only a few houses on the peninsula and it is our hope that our guests will treasure the special nature of the area. The cottage is ideal for persons who seek tranquillity and natural beauty - it is remote, even by Colonsay's standards, and the tortuous single track road is not suited to constant coming and going.

No words can describe the views. A bald summary might be "a magnificent and panoramic outlook, which cannot be surpassed". In the complete absence of light pollution, the night sky is quite breathtaking.

The property is self-catering, which means that the tenant is reponsible for normal cleaning and washing-up. It is a condition of letting that it is left in a proper state upon departure. We do not charge for pets but they must not be allowed upon furniture and any dog-hair must be thoroughly removed. A minimum charge of £50.00 will be raised where additional cleaning, washing-up or dog-hair are encountered by our staff.

Please do not smoke or permit smoking inside the cottage. The property is rented only as a holiday let and not as an assured tenancy in terms of Housing (Scotland) Act 1988.
